This weekend we went to the the Lowry but from across from the Lowry you can get a great picture of the Imperial War Museum. It's not a bad shot, but then again there were so many shots I could have got with a better camera of the War Museum and the Lowry. I didn't have much time to look around the outside of the Lowry but I did spy one shot I could have got if I'd have had a zoom lens which of course wouldn't have fitted onto the QTEK and I may as well forget the digital zoom because all that does is kill the picture quality. Why did I not bring the camera bag.
On a different note I have started to take my waterproof camera on every bike trip. A strange thing to do you might think, but one one day back from work I saw a couple of kids running around a jet of water springing from ground in Ardwick on my way home. If I'd have had a camera I'd have been able to take a shot, but I didn't used to take a camera because it rains every so often when I ride to work. Problems solved, waterproof camera in my rucksack, that should insure that nothing interesting ever happens on my trips in and out of work.

This is just a quick picture of the Imperial War Museum North. You may have seen many picturs of the building. This view is quite deceptive in that it sort of looks like the building could be a big square block of a building all made of glass, but this bit (the observation tower) is a squint shiny metal structure. The museum inside is as odd as the outside, not a traditional museum at all. Did I enjoy it... well I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd have been in the mood for a museum, I was more in the mood for doing something interesting and after being spoilt by the good weather the last couple of days my mind was more set on being outside, however the rain and cold suggested outdoor activities should be curtailed.

The (from what I can only assume) badly advertised Manchester Museum of Transport is a bit of a strange thing. If you try to search for transport museum and Manchester then you get a few things. You get that it's a grade 2 listed building but you don't get the address.
How we found this is because my wife drove past a few signs for it and when she came back from work. We did our best to find the placeand after a bit of searching we found it and this is a picture from the place.
It's strange in that there are lots of things, but they are a little disorganised. It is attached to a working bus depot but the best part of it is when you find a bus that you may have travelled on. I also find it fantastic that radiators on old busses weren't covered and the radiator cap was out in the open, something that today's health and safety people would have a field day on let alone the trusting people wouldn't pour coke into it for sheer mischief.
Probably not worth the cash but something to go to and something that should still be here in another 100 years to tell people about the past of transport. Mind you I said it's not worth the cash but the displays are quite interesting and there are a few pics of Piccadilly which were pretty impressive. OK I'm wrong. Four quid per adult isn't bad. I think the problem was there was little time to do this with a 6 year old so it was a bit of a rush and also you have to be in the mind to do it.

This is a picture of the U-Boat on the Warship Museum in Birkenhead. Quite a small museum, but it's a good place to go if you have never even been on a warship, which sounds a stupid thing to say, because I suspect most people won't think of doing it. We didn't have a look at the U-Boat, the place was closing, but did get a chance to walk through a submarine HMS Onyx, and strange to think you could live in the cramped conditions for 90 days. I did try out a bed and being 6ft 1ins it wasn't my style, but strangely enough I didn't feel claustrophobic, but then again we weren't deep under the sea with goodness knows how many other people rushing about at battle stations. HMS Plymouth was interesting and being a boat had more room, but only a little more, but the U-Boat U534 (pictured) did evade us, so we shall have to go back and go for that tour next time.
Update 26/8/2006: I found out yesterday that the museum closed in February this year which it a great pity, I know the boats were scattered but the whereabouts of the U-Boat I don't know. If anyone does I would appreciate them emailing. I can't help thinking that the demise of the Museum was to do with the luxury apartments being build behind which is understandable, after all we definitely need more of them!

T-Rex at the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry. They were doing a Dinosaur thing. My Daughter took this one, of course being the stupid Dad, I knew it wouldn’t come out so took some myself so she could have a “good one”. Once again reinforcing quality in a task rather than having a go... Bad Daddy. The movement in this one’s pretty good, though it does show the K700i’s lack of ability in low light situations.
