Well we failed several times today and if I were driving then home we would have gone but my Wife is so stubborn that she will not give up even to the point where no-one has any fun. We were close to that. We initially headed for Ellenroad Engine House which after getting through the security barrier at SunChemicals we found that it's only open the first Sunday in every month. Let fun be unconfined. We got there after Google Maps ignored a junction and the directiones pointed us back to the motorway back home. It should have been a sign
So where to next? One look at the map and it's Chamber House Urban Farm, no results on Google Maps on my phone but it's on the map so it must be there so we drive to it. I say drive to it what I mean is we drive to where is was and a miscommunication meant that we ended up miles out. After a quick search I found that it had been sold like so many places for... wait for it... housing.
So now I am up for going home. We have been driving for quite a while and I have had not Breakfast just like the Sweeney so we stopped at Delicious which worried me slightly. If you have to call your business Delicious then I have to wonder. Anyway a Cheese and Ham Toasty which was delicious later we were on the road. So as I said before my Wife does not give up so we ended up as the East Lancs Railway in Heywood which took a bit to find, and when we did we found that the train had left. So now we can go home? No. We drive more until we get to Ramsbottom... we will get on a train.
So we get a train from Ramsbotton to Rawtenstall, oh hold on I forgot that this is all about the picture, which is the train that took us to Rawtenstall that then took us right back again. All the door clacking brought me right back to the commuter days that I hated when I worked in Manchester and took the train. I suspect trains are romantic for those who don't have to take them every day.

On a trip to finally see Tabley House after turning up the last time two hours early we left after a nice feed at the Tea Room but unwilling to wait two hours until the house opened. This time we planned it to perfection... well I think that might be going over the top... we planned it and got into the house without having to wait hours.
The house is OK but nothing special. I think you need to have a great interest some or all of the paintings they have in their possession as this seems to be the whole reason to go. I knew nothing about the art work so whilst it was interesting it was nothing special. Probably good if you like lists of stuff, paintings or you're an art spotter.
As you can see this is the Chapel which you can see if you visit the interesting Tea Room which in itself is interesting and worth a visit. In the Tea Room itself (which would connect the House to the Chapel if it weren't for the fact that you can't walk through West Wing as this is a Nursing Home as is the East Wing and the top floor of the house) is an impressive fireplace that was in the Old Hall which is in ruins because of Salt mining in the area.

Whilst I did write about Bologna's train station bomb I never realised that there were two clocks on the station. To be honest I are really three. There are two analogue clocks and a digital one in the middle. I never had the gust to take a picture of the crack in the wall but this I could take because with a zoom lens you can see from our room.
What's weird is that nothing of this is in the guide books but perhaps that's not that weird. It came to light at the end of the swift bus tour of Bologna. It turns out that the clock in the picture that is on the left side of the ticket hall stopped at the time of the bomb and in memory of the incident was kept at the time, the other one on the right still ticks away. Of course the digital one is probably as accurate as it could be.

Well you can tell it's soon time to leave because it's a more nondescript picture here at Zamyatin. The toll of beautiful buildings and baking sun has taken its toll. Plus the fact that I spent most of the time taking pictures with the Nikon and using the JVC to take video on a free trip to Murano which was free from the hotel, the weird thing initially was that the water taxi was paid for by the glass gallery especially since there was a demo and a personal tour thrown in free. Of course this was weird until it became patently clear that this was a sales trip trying to sell us hundreds of Euros of glassware. What's actually odd about it was that last time we came to Venice we paid our fare to get to Murano and when we tried to see if we could have a tour (which we would be happy to pay for) we were all but escorted off the premises but this time since they were more than happy to pay the water taxi and give us a personal tour. By way of thanks we bought EUR25 of glass, that should go some way to paying for some of the taxi fares.
Anyway lets get back to the picture. On the way to find something to eat we stopped near the Teatro Restaurant and this image looked quite nice so I took and snap. The end.

The largest and the only bridge over the Grand Canal in Venice until they built the one until 1854. The first one was wooden but the stone structure now supports shops on either side similar to a larger bridge in Florence, however the one in Florence contains shops with expensive jewellery instead of the souvenirs as with this on.
Near here there are restaurants and Gondoliers lining the sides of the canal. We at last gave in to the calls of the Gondoliers and went for the longest trip which included the Small Canal and the Grand Canal, the Grand Canal trip alone was expensive but adding the Small Canal was only EUR20 extra so why not. It was indeed enjoyable but at the end of 30 minutes (5 of which was on the Grand Canal) we did wonder what little we would have got for the (not much) cheaper trip. Of course during the whole negotiation process of price I couldn't help thinking we were paying for an investigation into the ear or the gut what with the phrases Small and Grand Canal. Perhaps that's just me.
